HomeMy WebLinkAbout00-038 RESOLUTION #00-038 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND ADOPTING THE COUNCIL PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE'S RECOMMENDATIONS IN REGARD TO THE PROPOSED FIRE DEPARTMENT MERGER WITH JEFFERSON COUNTY FIRE DISTRICT #6 WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend and Jefferson County Fire District #6, at the direction of the City Council and District Commissioners, are in the process of discussing a merger of the two departments; and WHEREAS, the Council's Public Safety Committee has been updated on the issues which must be addressed for such a merger to go forward; and WHEREAS, the entities involved have received a letter from the Port Townsend Fire Dept./Jefferson County Fire District Merger committee requesting a clarification of the policy of the entities at this time; and WHEREAS, the Public Safety Committee at its May 18 meeting recommended policies for approval of the council of the whole; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: SECTION 1. The City Council's general stance on the merger is favorable. SECTION 2. Funding methodology of the combined departments would be based on equitable levy rates and on billing rates that would reflect cost per service. SECTION 3. Structure of a new governing body is set by statute; number and representation of commissioners would be subject to further information and discussion.
