HomeMy WebLinkAbout030420 Final PTAC Minutes Minutes of the Port Townsend Arts Commission Meeting of March 4, 2020 LOCATION: City Hall Conference Room 3 MEMBERS PRESENT: Nhatt Nichols (Chair), Maryann Tapiro, Shelly Leavens, & Dan Groussman MEMBERS EXCUSED: Kris Morris, Stan Rubin (Vice Chair), & Becky Busi STAFF PRESENT: Executive Assistant Kelly Graves Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 3:03 p.m. Approval of Agenda The agenda was approved as is. Approval of Minutes for February 2020 Meeting Minutes were approved 3-1. Public Comment No Public Comment Funding Application: 4PT Productions Bob Francis presented to the Commission for their event, a Classical music and jazz concert by Wayne Horvitz (composer, pianist) and Sarah Schoenbeck (bassoonist) The concert is pay what you wish. Funding will help with the rental of the room and tuning the piano. The Commission approved 4-0 unanimously to fund $315. Funding Application: Aaron Asis (partnering with Centrum) Aaron Asis and Michelle Hagewood presented to the Commission for their event “Fort Words” which is a series of temporary installations and public events conceived to celebrate the history current and future significance of Fort Worden. It will be a temporary exhibit, public walk/park experience from June – September. Funding will help with design and development, installation materials, and travel expenses. The Commission approved 2-1 to fund $1500. Funding Application: Jefferson County Historic Society: Tara McCauley presented to the Commission about the Art Walk Enhancement Activities event that will be on Saturdays April through December. This event will have hands on art to compliment the art experience including book reading, clay art, paper art, and performances. Funding will help purchase materials for art, The Commission approved 3-0 unanimously to fund $650. Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action and with advertising. Chairs Update: Ms. Nichols informed the Commission about the invite to Jennifer Hardesty’s Ballet performance, invite was emailed to Commission members. She also informed the Commission of a meeting she has scheduled in the following week with City Manager John Mauro to discuss the Commission’s Budget and Workplan. Budget Update Before the meeting started the Commission had a balance of $12,605, after approved grant funding the balance is $10,140. Playwright Festival The Commission discussed the Playwright program and if this is something they would like to continue doing. They are already obligated for this event through 2020 and want to discuss and decide when more members are present. Outreach Discussion/Materials Will discuss at a future meeting Public Art Committee Update The Olycap project has been put on hold for now, no new public art related updates. Website Review The Commission reviewed the City website Arts Commission pages. This will need further discussion in the future and suggested updates to City staff.
