HomeMy WebLinkAbout20-035 Adopting Guiding Principals for Cares Act Coronavirus Relief Funds Resolution 20-035 RESOLUTION NO. 20-035 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON ADOPTING GUIDING PRINCIPLES FOR CARES ACT CORONAVIRUS RELIEF FUNDS WHEREAS, as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, the State of Washington received stimulus funding from the United States government; and, WHEREAS, the State of Washington allocated $300 million of the stimulus funding to cities and counties ineligible to receive funding directly from the federal government; and, WHEREAS, the State of Washington allocated $288,300 to the City of Port Townsend; and, WHEREAS, the City may use the funds for eligible expenses incurred between March 1, and October 31, 2020; WHEREAS, the City Council considered the potential uses for the funds at a workshop on June 1, 2020; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, that the City will use the following guiding principles in determining how to use the CARES Act Corona virus relief funds: 1. Recoup the unplanned necessary City costs related to the impacts of COVID-19. 2. Target projects or plans that create an immediate near-term benefit while also adding a potential lasting positive impact. 3. Leverage this limited funding through collaboration with local partners including costs incurred through work with the Intergovernmental Collaborative Group (ICG). ICG will provide a multi-governmental process for collaborating on the establishment of a COVID- 19 recovery and resiliency plan. 4. Support public engagement through innovative solutions during the crisis by leveraging technology and other resources that allow participation while keeping our community safe.
