HomeMy WebLinkAbout20-023 Closing Adams Street Between Jefferson and Franklin Streets to Motorized Vehicle TrafficResolution 20-023 RESOLUTION NO. 20-023 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON, CLOSING ADAMS STREET BETWEEN JEFFERSON AND FRANKLIN STREETS TO MOTORIZED VEHICLE TRAFFIC WHEREAS, per direction from the City Council Transportation Committee, City of Port Townsend staff solicited comments from the public regarding the future of Adams Street between Jefferson and Franklin Streets; and WHEREAS, the public feedback supported the closure of Adams Street by a margin of two to one; and WHEREAS, on March 18, 2020, the City Council Transportation Committee recommended to the closure of Adams Street to motorized vehicles to the full Council based on the majority of the public feedback that supported closure; and WHEREAS, on March 5, 2020 the Port Townsend Active Transportation Advisory Board recommended that Adams Street between Jefferson and Franklin be closed to motorized vehicles; and WHEREAS, Governor's proclamation 20-28 limited the City Council to consideration of items that are: 1. necessary and routine; or 2. necessary to fight COVID-19; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend as follows: S.ection.1. City staff will proceed to permanently close Adams Street to motorized vehicle traffic between Jefferson and Franklin Streets and will improve it for non -motorized use. Section 2. The consideration of this item is necessary and routine based on the previous level of public process and the need for a final decision. ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a regular meeting thereof, held this 181h day of May 2020.
