HomeMy WebLinkAbout120419 PTAC Minutes Minutes of the Port Townsend Arts Commission Meeting of December 4, 2019 LOCATION: City Hall Conference Room 3 MEMBERS PRESENT: Stan Rubin (Vice Chiar), Nhatt Nichols (Chair), Maryann Tapiro, Shelly Leavens, & Dan Groussman MEMBERS EXCUSED: Dominica Lord-Wood, Kris Morris, & Becky Busi STAFF PRESENT: Executive Assistant Kelly Graves Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 3:04 p.m. Approval of Agenda The agenda was approved. Approval of Minutes for October/November 2019 October minutes approved 5-0, November minutes approved 4-0 Dan abstained from voting Public Comment No Public Comment Budget Update The Commission reviewed the budget, there is $50 left in the general fund, and $55 left in the LTAC fund. Chairs Update: Ms. Nichols reported to the Commission that Dominica has resigned from the Commission. There is a meeting scheduled with the City Manager to see what the City expects of the Arts Commission, their budget and workplan. Finn River wording the land event that was funded by the Arts Commission has a book made and there is an event on December 21st to present this book. Funding Application: Centrum George Marie presented to the Commission about their three day storytelling workshop for teachers to learn how to incorporate storytelling into the classroom. Funding will help with assemblies, public presentation, and the teaching component. There will be 2 assemblies, 1 public performance, and 1 training session for teachers. The Commission approved 5-0 unanimously to fund $1200 from the general fund. Funding Application: Andrea Lawson Andrea Lawson presented to the Commission her Visions in Motion event. It will be a pay what you wish The Commission approved 3-2 to fund $1300 from the general fund. Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action performance on freedom of expression, with art, music, and dance. Funding will help with general costs. Funding Application: Storyborne Bonnie Obremski presented to the Commission for her event Heart Stories. This event brings community members and artists together for raw storytelling from the heart with different mediums. Funding will help make the event free and open to the public, it will pay for the public tickets. Fee waivers have been requested for 02/15 and 02/16 for use of the Cotton and Pope Marine buildings. The Commission approved 3-2 to fund $1500 from the general fund. 2020 Workplan This will be discussed at a future meeting Outreach Committee Report This committee met in November and reviewed application and budget, and FAQ samples, they will set the next Outreach meeting at the January Arts Commission meeting. Public Arts Committee Mark Blatter is working on a new development at QFC, and wants to keep the Public Arts Committee involved in case it is decided to have a public art piece. The Committee is working on trying to schedule the next meeting. Angel of the Arts Nomination The Commission received a nomination. They discussed moving the process to the Spring and Keeping the event in the Fall. Next Meeting: January 8, 2020, 3:00 p.m. Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 4:53 p.m.
