Minutes of the Port Townsend Arts Commission Meeting of October 2, 2019
LOCATION: City Hall Conference Room 3
MEMBERS PRESENT: Dominica Lord-Wood, Dan Groussman, Stan Rubin (Vice Chiar), Nhatt Nichols (Chair), Maryann Tapiro and Shelly Leavens MEMBERS EXCUSED: Kris Morris, Becky Busi. STAFF PRESENT: Executive Assistant Kelly Graves
Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action
Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 3:02 p.m.
Approval of Agenda The agenda was approved as is
Approval of Minutes for October 2, 2019 Minutes approved 7-0 unanimously (One member abstained as they were not present last meeting)
Public Comment No Public Comment
Budget Update
There is a balance of $1307.75 in the Arts Commission general fund and $55 in LTAC.
Funding Application: Centrum Letter
Centrum has asked to postpone their grant funding to 2020 as they had to reschedule their event.
The Commission agreed that centrum should present at the
December meeting for pre allocated funding in 2020. Funding Application: Rainshadow Chorale Lisa Hoffman presented to the Commission to request $500 for funding for Composer Jake Runestad to conduct two of his own pieces. He is internationally known. Funds
will be for advertising.
The Commission voted 6-0 unanimously to fund $500 from the general fund with Maryann recusing herself.
Funding Application: Community Chorus of PT Carol Chandler and Pat Hartman presented to the
Commission to Request $980 to fund 4 low cost concerts in PT and Chimacum, this will help with production costs, poster design and printing costs. They bring in beginners and help teach them to sign in their chorus.
The Commission voted 4-2 to fund $757.75 from general fund
Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action
Chairs Update:
Owen Rowe has officially resigned from the Arts Commission and all sub committees.
Elections
Nhatt Nichols was nominated to be the acting Chair, and Stan Rubin was elected to be Vice Chair for the remainder of 2019
The Commission Voted 6-0 to elect Nhatt Nichols as Chair, and
Stan Rubin as Vice Chair for the remainder of 2019.
2020 Workplan The Commission should create a workplan for 2020 for projects they plan to work on.
The Commission agreed that they will finalize their workplan at the December meeting.
Angel of the Arts/Patron of the Arts Update The event will be on Friday October 11 at 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Outreach Committee Report Reschedule meeting to November 14, 2019 3:00 p.m.
Public Arts Committee Report The Commission reviewed the Public Art Plan. The Commission voted 6-0 to approve the Public Art plan and recommend it to the City Council.
