RESOLUTION NO. 19-078
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON SUPPORTING THE FORMATION OF A WASHINGTON STATE
ARTS COMMISSION CERTIFIED CREATIVE DISTRICT
WHEREAS, the 2019-2022 Port Townsend Strategic Plan's first focus area is economic
growth and one of the action items under that focus area is support and promotion of two creative
districts: The Downtown and Uptown Commercial Historic Districts and Fort Worden in the City
of Port Townsend; and
WHEREAS, Port Townsend Main Street Program, an Internal Revenue Service
recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organization, meets the Washington State Arts Commission
Creative District Certification guidelines; and
WHEREAS, creative districts have successfully fostered the economic growth that is
desirable in Port Townsend by attracting artists, visitors, and creative entrepreneurs; introducing
new energy and innovation; and creating hubs of economic, artistic, social and entrepreneurial
activity; and
WHEREAS, the Port Townsend Main Street Program has led and will continue to lead
and administer the Port Townsend creative districts in conjunction with the City of Port
Townsend and other organizations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend:
The City Council supports and endorses the creation of a Washington State Arts
Commission certified Port Townsend Creative Districts in the City limits as led and
administered by the Port Townsend Main Street Program.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a regular meeting
thereof, held this 16th day of September 2019.
