A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN A SISTER CITY
AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND AND THE CITY OF
ICHIKAWA, JAPAN
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend desires to promote peace and
understanding through cultural and educational exchanges; and
WHEREAS, the Sister City program affords the opportunity to create a
relationship between the cities of differing nations to foster a personal relationship; and
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend and the City of Ichikawa, Japan have had
an informal relationship of cultural and educational exchange; and
WHEREAS, the City of Ichikawa and the community group, Friends of
Ichikawa, request that the City formalize this relationship,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Port Townsend authorizes the Mayor to sign an official Sister City Agreement to
establish a cultural and educational exchange with the City of Ichikawa, Japan.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a regular
meeting thereof, held this 1 st day of October, 2001.
