RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT
TOWNSEND AUTHORIZING LEGAL DEFENSE SERVICES TO CITY
EMPLOYEE POLICE CHIEF KRISTEN ANDERSON
The City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington resolves as follows:
WHEREAS, the City has an obligation and a strong public interest in maintaining
assurance of litigation protection for employees arising out of and within the scope of work
and services performed for the City, including protecting employees from litigation; and
WHEREAS, on October 10, 2001, a lawsuit was filed in Jefferson County
Superior Court against the City, Police Department, and Chief Kristen Anderson (and
her husband and the marital community) by former Police Department employee,
Officer Craig Lohner; and
WHEREAS, the City should provide legal assistance in this matter, which arises
from Kristen Anderson's employment as Police Chief for the City,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council for the City
of Port Townsend authorizes the City Attorney to take all reasonable and necessar~
steps to defend any proceeding and provide legal services on behalf of Police Chief
Anderson and her marital community in the above cause.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend and signed by the
Mayor on this 19th day of November, 2001.
