HomeMy WebLinkAbout080719 PTAC Minutes Minutes of the Port Townsend Arts Commission Meeting of August 7, 2019 LOCATION: City Hall Conference Room 3 MEMBERS PRESENT: Dominica Lord-Wood, Owen Rowe (Chair), Shelly Leavens, Dan Groussman, Stan Rubin, Nhatt Nichols, Maryann Tapiro and Becky Busi. MEMBERS EXCUSED: Kris Morris STAFF PRESENT: Executive Assistant Kelly Graves Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 3:00 p.m. Approval of Agenda The agenda was approved Approval of Minutes for June 5, 2019 Minutes approved 4-0 unanimously (by members that were present) Approval of Minutes for July 3, 2019 Minutes approved 6-0 unanimously with one change, correction to spelling of name. (members that were not present for the July meeting did not vote) Public Comment No Public Comment Budget Update The Commission has paid out $417 to Key City and $400 to Rainshadow Chorale. There is a balance of $1,107.75 in the Arts Commission general fund and $3555 in LTAC. Funding Application: Jeannie McMacken and Friends Jeannie McMacken presented to the Commission about The art of the See event open to the public to showcase high quality art: “How I see my environment.” Funds will be used for advertising (flyers, postcards). The Commission voted 8-0 to fund $300 from the general fund Funding Application: 4PT Productions Bob Francis and Carla Main presented to the Commission for a small group concert with artist Miles Okazaki. (Miles is local and grew up here) Funds will be used for venue rental and misc set up expenses. The commission voted 8-0 to fund $200 from the general fund Funding Application: PT Soundcheck Gage Pacifera presented to the Commission about the soundcheck festival to help showcase local musicians and performers, and help THING attendees explore the The commission voted 8-0 to fund $2500 from LTAC Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action community the days before the big festival. Funding will help build awareness to the event including posters and out of town ads, and modest compensation to artists and for some activities during the event. Funding Application: Local 2020 RHAG Adrianna Santiago & Suzanne Jones presented to the Commission to create a community design event for community building. The funding would help with promotional printing, materials, and artist stipend. The Commission voted 8-0 to reject application to be reworked and resubmitted at the September meeting. Chairs Update: Role of Members OPMA: reminder do not communicate with each other outside of meetings or through personal email. Send to artscomm@cityofpt.us email. Creative Districts Update: Owen and Shelly attended the last Creative District meeting. The Commission will review the draft letter of support at September PTAC Meeting. There is a Community Meeting Wednesday September 11 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at Fort Worden in the commons building. This meeting will be to share with artists what the community district effort is and how the program will work. 2020 Budget The Commission discussed their 2020 budget request amount proposal. The commission voted 8-0 to ask for $32,000 for the general fund and $10,000 from LTAC. 2020 Workplan Chair Mr. Rowe will update the 2020 workplan, to match the 2019 workplan. The Commission agreed that Mr. Rowe can make these changes to present to the Council. Outreach Committee Report The next Outreach Committee is scheduled for: August 19th 1-2 Public Arts Committee Report The Committee is working on the Public Arts Plan. The packet contained guidelines for Artistic Murals. The Commission can discuss this and the relationship between HPS/PTAC and a future meeting. The “For Willene” Art Dedication at the Gateway Plaza is scheduled for Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action November 2, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. Angel and Patron of the Arts Update The Angel of the Arts Event is scheduled for Friday October 11, 2019 Next Meeting: September 4, 2019, 3:00 p.m. Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 5:04 p.m.
