HomeMy WebLinkAbout060519 PTAC Minutes Minutes of the Port Townsend Arts Commission Meeting of June 5, 2019 LOCATION: City Hall Conference Room 3 MEMBERS PRESENT: Dominica Lord-Wood, Owen Rowe (Chair), Shelly Leavens, Kris Morris, Dan Groussman, and Becky Busi MEMBERS EXCUSED: Stan Rubin, Nhatt Nichols, Maryann Tapiro STAFF PRESENT: City Attorney Heidi Greenwood, and Executive Assistant Kelly Graves Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 3:03 p.m. Approval of Agenda The agenda was approved with adding an item G: Update on Public Art Approval of Minutes for May 1, 2019 Unanimous approval of the minutes with one change to the Chairs update. Public Comment No public Comment Chair’s Update and Announcements Mr. Rowe informed the Commission that he is running for City Council, if elected he will not be eligible to sit on Arts Commission. Mr. Rowe would like the Commission to do elections at the December Meeting. Budget Update The Commission has paid out $417 to Key City Public Theatre, and $400 to Rainshadow Corale. There is a balance of $5,262 in the Arts Commission general fund, and $5,555 in the LTAC fund. Funding Application: Centrum Karen Clemens, Lisa Werner, and Katia Kirsh presented to the Commission about their storytelling program for students and teachers. Free storytelling presentations, to help teach teachers the art of storytelling. Open to public and private schools. Funding will help with tech support, presentation/technical fees, color posters and venues. The Commission voted 6-0 unanimously to fund $1200 from the PTAC general fund. Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action Funding Application: Port Townsend Film Festival Jan Halliday and Janette Force presented to the Commission to help fund and support advertising for free cinema. 2 Peter Simpson fee theatres and free film on Talyor street for 600 people. They want to reach outside of PT with their advertising. The Commission voted 6-0 unanimously to fund $2000 from the PTAC general fund, and $2500 from LTAC funds. Funding Application: Northwind Arts Michael D’Alessadro presented to the Commission a request to fund the PT Arts WA Artist Studio Tour, and to increase marketing and publicity to Tacoma, Olympia, and the I-5 Corridor. The Commission voted 5-0 unanimously (with Dominica Lord-Wood recused) to fund $1200 from the PTAC general fund. Angel and Patron of the Arts update No update Outreach Committee Update The Outreach Committee is still working on updating the forms. The next scheduled meeting is June 17, 2019. Public Art Update The “For Willene” sculpture will be sited at the Visitor Center Location. Electrical work is being undergrounded and Willene is drafting words for the plaque, which will come back to PTAC for review. The dedication for the sculpture will be November 2, 2019 Next Meeting: July 3, 2019, 3:00 p.m. Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
