A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON, POSTPONING THE QUESTION OF ANNEXING THE CITY
LIBRARY TO THE COUNTY LIBRARY DISTRICT
WHEREAS, discussions and study of the concept of annexation of the city
library to the county library district have been ongoing throughout the year 2001; and
WHEREAS, a report commissioned by the Jefferson County Library Board of
Trustees was completed on December 12, 2001; and
WHEREAS, the library district is currently without a library director; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Port Townsend Library Board were tasked by
the Council to come forward with a recommendation on the issue;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Port Townsend as follows:
The City Council accepts the recommendation of the Port Townsend Library
board to propose to the trustees of the Jefferson County Library District that both entities
set aside the question of annexing the city library to the county district until such time as
the library district has a director who has been in Jefferson County long enough to
understand the issues involved; and until members of the Council feel it is time to reopen
the discussion.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a regular
meeting thereof, held this fourth day of March, 2002.
