A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON AUTHORIZING THE DEPUTY MAYOR TO SIGN A SISTER CITY
AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND AND THE CITY OF
ICHIKAWA, JAPAN AND PROCLAIMING HER TO BE THE CITY'S OFFICIAL
REPRESENTATIVE
Attest:
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend desires to promote peace and understanding
through cultural and educational exchanges; and
WHEREAS, the Sister City Program affords the opportunity to create a relationship
between the cities of differing nations to foster a personal relationship; and
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend and the City of Ichikawa, Japan have had an
informal relationship of cultural and educational exchange; and
WHEREAS, the City of Ichikawa and the community group, Friends of Ichikawa,
request that the City formalize this relationship; and
WHEREAS, a group of citizens is visiting Ichikawa, Japan this October; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Mayor Freida Fenn will represent the City of Port Townsend as
part of its delegation; and
WHEREAS, the City of Ichikawa will be hosting a banquet for the official signing of
the agreement;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend as follows:
1. The Deputy Mayor is authorized to sign an official Sister City Agreement
to establish a cultural and educational exchange with the City of Ichikawa,
Japan; and
2. The Deputy Mayor serves as the official City representative to the
Ichikawa delegation.
