RESOLUTION NO. 19-037
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON, ADOPTING THE PORT TOWNSEND PUBLIC LIBRARY
SUSTAINABILITY REPORT AND IMPLEMENTING OPTION ONE TO
ENSURE FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY FOR THE NEXT THREE TO FIVE YEARS
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend Public Library ("Library") is a valuable
community asset that provides many essential services for all members of the community; and
WHEREAS, the City engaged Berk Consulting, Inc. to complete a Level of Service
Analysis that analyzes the Library budget and use and makes recommendations regarding the
long-term funding and priorities for the Library; and,
WHEREAS, Berk Consulting, Inc. laid out a few options to resize Library operations
and services that would ensure long-term Library viability; and,
WHEREAS, City staff analyzed the options and determined that Option 1 offered the
greatest economic efficiencies; and,
WHEREAS, the Library has already made a few adjustments that have partially
implemented Option 1;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend as follows:
Section 1. The City of Port Townsend Public Library will implement the
recommendations of the Berk Consulting, Inc. Service Analysis Option 1 that includes
freezing a .63 FTE paraprofessional position and a$1.00 reduction in per capita print
collections.
Section 2. Staff will analyze the other options of the Berk Consulting, Inc. Service
Analysis and look for other opportunities to gain economic efficiencies while maintaining
high-quality core Library services.
