RESOLUTION NO. 19-022
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE CITY FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATIVE
SERVICES DIRECTOR TO SIGN A CONTRACT WITH PECKHAM & MCKENNEY,
INC. TO ASSIST WITH THE CITY MANAGER RECRUITMENT PROCESS
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend as follows:
WHEREAS,the current City Manager notified the City Council of his intent to retire on or
about June 30, 2019; and
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend has planned for the recruitment of a new City
Manager and has completed many steps in that process, including completing a strategic planning
retreat, formulating the City's candidate expectation, and soliciting community input through a
community task force; and
WHEREAS, the City is behind on the recruitment timeline and City staff's capacity is
needed for other projects and priorities; and
WHEREAS,the City requires a professional,dedicated, and focused recruitment to ensure
that the City has the broadest and best candidate pool for interviews and possible selection; and
WHEREAS, a professional recruitment firm may seek out candidates that the City's
adverting may not reach as well as offer background investigation, reference checks, and other
screening checks that are not within the City's capabilities;
WHEREAS,the City Manager Recruitment Community Task Force Lead recommended that
the City contract with a professional recruitment firm;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend to authorize the City Finance and Administrative Services Director to sign a contract
not to exceed $24,500 with Peckham & McKenny, Inc. to assist with the City Manager
Recruitment.
