A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN A SISTER CITY
AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND AND THE CITY OF
ICHIKAWA, JAPAN
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend desires to promote peace and
understanding through cultural and educational exchanges; and
WHEREAS, the Sister City program affords the opportunity to create a
relationship between the cities of differing nations to foster a personal relationship; and
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend and the City of Ichikawa, Japan have had
an informal relationship of cultural and educational exchange; and
WHEREAS, the City of Ichikawa and the community group, Friends of
Ichikawa, request that the City formalize this relationship,
WHEREAS, the City Council adopted Resolution 01-045 on October 1,2001
authorizing the Mayor to sign an official Sister City Agreement to establish a cultural and
educational exchange with the City of Ichikawa, Japan.
WHEREAS, the official Sister City Agreement in form for review and signature
was not before the Council when Resolution 01-045 was passed, and is now available and
ready to be signed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Port Townsend authorizes the Mayor to sign an official Sister City Agreement in
the form attached to this Resolution to establish a cultural and educational exchange with
the City of Ichikawa, Japan, and to present the Agreement to the representatives of the
City of Ichikawa, Japan.
