HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-049 RESOLUTION NO. 02-049 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON OPPOSING STATE INITIATIVE 776 WHEREAS, the official ballot title states "Initiative Measure No. 776 concerns state and local government charges on motor vehicles. This measure would require license tab fees to be $30 per year for motor vehicles, including light tracks. Certain local-option vehicle excise taxes and fees used for roads and transit would be repealed"; and WHEREAS, State of Washington Initiative 776 (I-776) has been certified for the November 5, 2002, ballot; and WHEREAS, 1-776 would require license tab fees for motor vehicles to not exceed $30; and repeal existing local motor vehicle excise taxes and vehicle license fees that are used for local transportation projects supported by the people of Port Townsend, including taxes that have received voter approval; and WHEREAS, 1-776 seeks to eliminate locally approved transportation funding in King, Pierce, Snohomish, and Douglas Counties with a statewide vote, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend, that it declares its opposition to State of Washington Initiative 776. ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a regular meeting thereof, held this twenty-first day of October, 2002.
