HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-052RESOLUTION NO. 02-052 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A REAL ESTATE SALE AND PURCHASE AGREEMENT WITH THE NOMURA FAMILY FOR PURCHASE OF PROPERTY ALONG SAN JUAN AVENUE FOR RIGHT-OF-WAY IMPROVEMENTS WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Port Townsend determines it appropriate to acquire a 25 foot strip of land running along San Juan Avenue south of Discovery Road to allow for widening and improving San Juan Avenue, including allowing provision for a new trail along San Juan Avenue; and WHEREAS, the proposed price of $33,750 is approximately mid-point between the value indicated by owner's appraisal by Ralph Ericksen dated January 9, 2001, stating a property value of $1.60 per square foot, or $37,250, and the valuation indicated by the County Assessor of $30,000 for the strip; and WHEREAS, there would be costs to the City to acquire the property if negotiations are not concluded, including cost of City appraisal, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend as follows: That the City Manager is authorized to enter into a Real Estate Sale and Purchase Agreement with the Nomura Family to purchase approximately 25 foot by 931 foot section of property along San Juan Avenue for the amount of $33,750, and to complete the real estate transaction.
