The updated designs improve access to information, services, and local government. Additionally, the new City website prominently features links to popular online pages, including job openings, permit applications, the City newsletter, Library programs, and trash and recycling information. The website utilizes a responsive web design technology that automatically resizes for viewing on a smart phone or tablet. The new site also features improvements to ADA compliance, language access and general usability. “I want visitors, residents and businesses to have the best experience possible when engaging with the City online,” said David Timmons, City Manager, when asked to describe the reasons behind the website redesign. The City conducted a competitive process to select the most experienced government web designer for the website redesign. The City selected Municode because of their experience in creating professional and user-friendly government websites. Kelly Graves, Executive Assistant to the City Manager, led the City website task force, which included staff members from all City Departments, assisted by Pyramid Consulting who developed a City communication plan. According to Port Townsend Mayor Deborah Stinson, “I see this as the foundation of implementing our communications plan. It has modernized our website to make it easier for residents to navigate and staff to manage. It provides new features like email subscriptions and sets the stage for broadening communications through social media.”
