HomeMy WebLinkAbout110718 Minutes Minutes of the Port Townsend Arts Commission Meeting of November 7, 2018 LOCATION: City Hall, Conference Room 3 MEMBERS PRESENT: Kris Morris, Dominica Lord-Wood, Matt Miner, Nhatt Nichols, Owen Rowe (Chair), Stan Rubin, Lisa Wentworth MEMBERS EXCUSED: Dan Groussman, Maryann Tapiro MEMBERS OF PUBLIC PRESENT: Andrea Lawson, Carla Main, Rowan Matkins, STAFF PRESENT: Finance/Administrative Services Director Nora Mitchell, Acting Clerk Pam Kolacy Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action Call to Order/Roll Call The meeting was called to order at 3:00 p.m. Approval of Agenda An item was added after Public Comment regarding the City Manager recruitment survey. Public Comment Andrea Lawson noted she will be sitting in to observe the Commission and hopes to apply for project funding in the future. Carla Main thanked the Commission for their support of 4PT Productions. Approval of Minutes for October 3, 2018 Minutes were approved unanimously as presented (motion by Morris, second by Nichols) (Rubin abstained). City Manager Recruitment Survey Finance & Admin Services Director Nora Mitchell reviewed the City Manager Recruitment questionnaire with the group and received comments on each question for collation and presentation to the City Manager Recruitment Committee. Kris Morris is a member of the recruitment committee. Chairs Update and Announcements Chair Rowe reported on the latest meeting regarding the potential Creative District. At this time, it appears that an application may start with designation of Fort Worden as the district. The City can ask for expansion of the area in the future. The next steps are unclear and another meeting has not been set. Mr. Rowe also advocated at the last Council meeting Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action for an increase to the Arts Commission budget. Public Art Committee Report Morris briefed the Commission on the progress of the Public Art Plan. The Committee will meet again on November 14 to finalize the Plan. After comments from the Arts Commission the plan will go to City management and the City Council. The Plan is intended as a resource to help with the decision- making process when funds for public art are available Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action as well as to provide guidance for donations of art.
