HomeMy WebLinkAbout18-040 Establishing the City Manager Recruitment Timeline for 2018-2019, Authorizing the City Manager to Execute an Agreement with the Consultant for Strategic Planning Services, and Establishing a Community Task ForceResolution 18-040 Page 1 of 2 RESOLUTION NO. 18-040 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON, ESTABLISHING THE CITY MANAGER RECRUITMENT TIMELINE FOR 2018-2019, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT WITH A CONSULTANT FOR STRATEGIC PLANNING SERVICES, AND ESTABLISHING A COMMUNITY TASK FORCE WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend ("City") entered into an employment agreement with the City Manager, which expires on June 30, 2019; and, WHEREAS, the City Manager notified the City of his intent to retire as of June 30, 2019, and WHEREAS, the City needs to formulate a strategic plan to recruit a qualified replacement; and WHEREAS, the time line for recruiting includes a compensation study, strategic planning retreat, drafting a candidate profile, community input, soliciting applications, interviews, and negotiation and selection; and WHEREAS, the City requires the skills of a consultant during the strategic planning process; and WHEREAS, the City also requires the input of community members to ensure that the candidates are an appropriate fit for the City; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend as follows: Section_.,,. The City Council adopts the recruitment timeline in substantially the same form as at Exhibit A. Timelines in the transition plan are guidelines and may be modified as necessary. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized to negotiate and execute an agreement with a consultant for strategic planning services related to the City Manager recruitment process, in an amount not to exceed $15,000. Section 3. The Mayor is authorized to recommend a community task force of key City stakeholders for Council appointment to utilize the work from the consultant - facilitated strategic planning retreat in September 2018 to provide input on the proposed profile for the new City Manager. Section 4„ Prior to the Council strategic planning retreat, all Council Advisory Boards shall submit for possible inclusion in the strategic planning process any additional goals and recommendations that are not reflected in their current work plans.
