HomeMy WebLinkAbout18-021 Authorizing the City Manager to Submit a Grant Application to the Washington State Department of Transportation for the 2018 Pedestrian Bicycle Grant program and the Safe Routes to School Grant Program for Discovery Road ImprovementsResolution 18-021 RESOLUTION NO. 18-021 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR THE 2018 PEDESTRIAN BICYCLE GRANT PROGRAM AND THE SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL GRANT PROGRAM FOR DISCOVERY ROAD IMPROVEMENTS WHEREAS, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has issued a call for projects under the 2018 Pedestrian Bicycle and Safe Routes to School Application for Funding; and, WHEREAS, the City has been very successful in prior years' applications under this grant program and a significant amount of the City's street and sidewalk projects over the last 15 years have been constructed with grant dollars that leverage limited City transportation capital funds; and, WHEREAS, the project selected for the application this year has been identified as priority project in the adopted Six -Year Transportation Improvement Program and the Port Townsend Non -Motorized Transportation Plan; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend that: 1. The City Manager is authorized to submit grant applications to the Washington State Department of Transportation for the 2018 Pedestrian Bicycle Grant Program and the Safe Routes to School Grant Program for Discovery Road improvements with an estimated City match totaling $400,000. 2. If the grant is approved, the City Manager is requested to submit a plan to provide for the City match to Council for inclusion in the 2019 budget.
