RESOLUTION NO. 18-018
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE CITY'S MEMBERSHIP IN THE PUBLIC
LIBRARIES OF WASHINGTON
WHEREAS, The City of Port Townsend has historically participated in the Early
Learning Public Library Partnership, a collaboration with other libraries focused on early
learning; and,
WHEREAS, in January 2018, the members of the Partnership decided to broaden the
focus of the collaboration to whatever the ongoing needs of public libraries might be. Therefore,
they voted to dissolve the Partnership and some of the members incorporated a new non-profit
corporation, the Public Libraries of Washington ("PLoW"); and,
WHEREAS, PLoW has invited the City to join as a member; and,
WHEREAS, PLoW's stated mission is to promote cooperation among public libraries,
and represent the interests of public libraries;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend as follows:
1. The City Manager is authorized to negotiate and execute a membership agreement
with Public Libraries of Washington.
2. The City Manager may pay membership fees within the adopted Library budget, and
may authorize staff participation as available.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a regular meeting
thereof, held this 16th day of April, 2018.
