NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
CRITICAL AREAS UPDATE (CAO) AND LIMITED AMENDMENTS TO
THE SHORELINE MASTER PROGRAM
COMPLETING THE GMA PERIODIC UPDATE PROCESS

The Port Townsend City Council will conduct a public hearing on Monday, May 7, 2018
at or about 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, 540 Water Street, Port Townsend, WA to
accept public testimony on Ordinance 3198, an Ordinance of the City of Port Townsend,
Washington, Amending the Critical Areas Ordinance Codified in Chapter 19.05 of the
Port Townsend Municipal Code and Corollary Amendments to the Shoreline Master
Program; Completing the 2016 GMA Periodic Update.
The intent of this update is to revise the CAO as necessary to incorporate Best
Available Science and address issues found during implementation of the ordinance.
The CAO regulates activities proposed within the following areas: wetlands, fish and
wildlife habitat conservation areas, geologically hazardous areas, critical aquifer
recharge areas, and frequently flooded areas as required by statute; and critical
drainage corridors as identified by the City. The City proposes corollary limited
amendments to the Shoreline Master Program to update CAO reference. This code and
plan amendment proposal is a non-project action. Adoption of a revised Critical Areas
Ordinance will complete the final phase of the state mandated periodic update required
under the Growth Management Act (GMA)RCW 36.70A.130.
Persons wishing to testify to the City Council may do so either by submitting verbal
testimony during the public hearing or by submitting written comments to the City Clerk,

Written comments must be received by the close of the public hearing on May 7.
Ordinance 3198 is available for inspection in the City Clerkâs office on the second floor
of City Hall and will be posted on the City website with the meeting packet at
www.cityofpt.us no later than May 3, 2018.
