HomeMy WebLinkAbout3177 Related to the Code of Ethics; Adopting State Ethics Requirements and Amending Chapter 2.80 of the Port Townsend Municipal CodeOrdinance 3177 Ordinance 3177 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON, RELATED TO THE CODE OF ETHICS; ADOPTING STATE ETHICS REQUIREMENTS AND AMENDING CHAPTER 2.80 OF THE PORT TOWNSEND MUNICIPAL CODE WHEREAS, the City Council adopted its Code of Ethics under Ordinance 2786 in 2001, and amended it in 2002 (Ordinance 2801) and 2003 (Ordinance 2830); and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the provisions in state law related to conflicts of interest are sufficient to protect the public's interest prohibiting conflicts of interest while allowing for the selection of municipal officers from a wider group of responsible City residents; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Port Townsend do ordain as follows: Section 1. Amendment. Chapter 2.80 "Code of Ethics" of the Port Townsend Municipal Code is amended as shown in Exhibit A. Section 2. Publication. This Ordinance shall be published by an approved summary consisting of the title. Section 4. Effective Date. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force five days after the date of its publication in the manner provided by law. Ethics Hearings Officer Position Created. There is created and established the position of "eEthics hHearings oOfficer" ("hearings officer") for the eit�-City of Port Townsend. The council shall appoint a hearings officer and may appoint one or more alternate hearings officers. The first alternate hearings officer shall serve as the hearings officer if the hearings officer is unavailable or unable to serve, and the second alternate shall serve if the hearings officer and first alternate are unavailable or u+vwi9in#-p gble to serve. 2B.
