RESOLUTION NO. 17-057
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE AND
EXECUTE CONTRACTS WITH JEFFERSON COUNTY FOR THE PROVISION OF
JAIL AND MUNICIPAL COURT SERVICES
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend ("City") and Jefferson County ("County")
entered into an agreement on September 29, 2011 under which the County provides jail services
to the City; and,
WHEREAS, the City and County entered into a separate agreement with the County on
September 29, 2011 under which the County provides municipal court services to the City; and,
WHEREAS, both of the agreements were extended under the authority of Resolution 14-
062, but expire at the end of 2017; and,
WHEREAS, staff recommends that new contracts be executed for a three-year period,
with all the terms remaining substantially the same.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend as follows:
Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to negotiate and execute a
Regional Services Agreement (Jail Services) and an Interlocal Agreement Establishing
District Court Services and Compensation between Jefferson County and the City of Port
Townsend for a three-year period.
Section 2. The City Manager is authorized to take all administrative actions
consistent with the intent of this Resolution.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a regular meeting
thereof, held this 4th day of December, 2017.
