HomeMy WebLinkAbout020217 Minutes NON-MOTORIZED TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES Date: February 2, 2017 Time: 4:30 pm Location: City Hall 1st Floor Conference Room Members Present: Lys Burden, Richard Dandridge, Scott Walker, Joe Finn Members Excused: Mike Kaill, Hendrik Taatgen, Pat Teal, Mark Henthorn, Jolly Wahlstrom Staff Present: City Clerk Joanna Sanders, City Engineer David Peterson, City Manager David Timmons, Project Engineer Samantha Trone, Project Manager Tyler Johnson Topic Approval of Minutes: January 5, 2017 Staff Report: Samantha Trone gave a briefing of the Water Street Paving Project design elements. Member question/comments related to the following: median use for directional signage, possibility of moving medians closer to the ferry terminal, location of public art, plans for bike rack plans, bus stops, restrooms, and safety of backout parking into crosswalk on Tyler. David Timmons explained the PUD plans to underground the power along Discovery as part of the Grant Street school project providing an opportunity to widen the shoulders and improve pedestrian access. He also spoke about Council’s discussion on whether to seek $3.2 or $4 million associated with the City bond refinancing. The additional $800,000 could be used for connector trails, however staffing constraints due to other priority projects would preclude using funds for some time. There was some discussion of the Jefferson Street sidewalk project and the funding criteria associated with the Complete Streets grant. David Peterson reported that the Parks Department is working on trail maintenance projects. The Parks Department has begun numbering trails. A suggestion was to place street names versus numbers on signs. Bicycle Friendly City Award: Scott Walker agreed to correspond with the City Manager about the committee’s request to be tasked to pursue Gold award since it involves City resources. There was discussion about activities for all-day event at Cotton Building leading up to Council reading proclamation in support of Bicycle month. Next Meeting: Scheduled for March 2, 2017.
