AN ORDINANCE LEVYING A TAX FOR LODGING
ON HOTELS., ROOMING HOUSES, TOURISTS COURTS,
GUESTS HOUSES, MOTELS AND TRAILER CAMPS,
SETTING RATES, AND PROVIDING FOR THE
COLLECTION AND DISBURSEMENT THS~t~OF.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, IN REGULAR SESSION
ASSEMBLED DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section~l. From and after January 1, 1980, there is hereby
levied upon every charge made for lodging by a hotel~ rooming
house, tourist court, motel, trailer camp or other ~lace of transient
lodging a tax of 2% on the charge made,~Collected by th%.owner and
operator of Such lodging establishment, and remitted as a part of
the regular sales tax collected and paid to the State Of Washington.
Section 2. For the purposes of th~s Ordinance, a transient is
defined as any person or persons seeking and obtaining lodging for
period of less than one full month.
Section 3. Pursuant to R.C.W. 67.28.190 and'R.C.W. 67.28.200
the State of Washingto~ Department of Revenue shall serve as the
collector of said tax, which shall be included within and not as an
addition to the regular sales tax of ~he State of Washington, and
said Department of Revenue shall ~mit the 2% tax, or such amount
as may hereafter be provided by Ordinance, to the City of Port
Townsend.
Section 4. The revenues from the aforesaid tax shall be used
for the construction of perform/ng arts center facilities, visual
arts center!facilities, Stadiums, conve~ttion centers, or for tourist
promotion within the meaning of R.C.W. 35.21.700. Said tourist
promotion, pursuant to R.C.W. 67.28.210 may consist of advertising,
publici!ing or otherwise distributing information for the purpose
of-i~tracting visitors and enoourag~n~ourist ~s~O~in ~ ......
City of Port Townsend or the areas adjacent to ~he City of Port
Townsend which bear upon its economic condition.

This Ordinance shall take effect upon its passage, approval
a~d ~lblication as provided by law.
Read for the first, second and third time, passed by the
CounoiI and approved by the Mayor on December %~, 1979.
