HomeMy WebLinkAbout1848 Business and Occupation Licenses and Franchise Licenses/ O]~INANCE NO. 1848 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1090 AS ~ENDED BY ORDINANCE NO. 1498 AND RELATED TO A LICENSE UPON CERTAIN BUSINESSES'AND OCCUPATIONS AND REPEALING ORDINANCES~u~n2~ AND-1-8-z~ FIXING F~NCHISE LICENSE FEES. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, IN REGULAR SESSION ASSEMBLED, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 5 of Ordinance No. 1090 as amended by Ordinance 1498, is further amended to read as follows: "Section'5. OCCUPATIONS SUBJECT TO TAX --- AMOUNT: There are hereby levied upon, and shall be collected from, the persons on account of the business activities annual license fees or occupation taxes in the amount to be determined by the application of the rates against gross income as follows: (a) Upon every person engaged in or carrying on a telegraph and/ or telephone business., a fee or tax equal to Four Percent (4%) of the total gross income from such business in the city during his fiscal year next preceding the tax year for which the license is required. (b) Upon every person engaged in or carrying on the'business of selling or furnishing gas for hire, a fee or tax equal to Four Percent (4%) of the total gross income from such business in the city during his fiscal year next preceding the tax year for which the license is required. (c) Upon every person engaged in or carrying on the business of selling or furnishing electric light and power, a fee or tax equal to Four Percent (4%) of the total gross income from such business in the city during his fiscal year next preceding the tax year for which the license is required. (d) Upon every person engaged in or carrying on the business of selling or furnishing water, a fee or tax equal to Seven Percent (7%) of the total gross income from such business in the city during his fiscal year next preceding the tax year for which the license is re- quired. (e) Upon every person engaged in or carrying on the business of selling or furnishing sewage disposal, a fee or tax equal to Seven Per- cent (7%) of the total gross income from such business in ~he city dur- ing his fiscal year next preceding the tax year for which the license is required." Section 2. Ordinance No. 1370, as amended by Ordinance No. 1403, ........ 1558, 1631 and 1820 establishing an annual license-f~_fo~~_H~ity~ Franchise License is hereby repealed. Section 3. Ordinance No. 1402, as amended by Ordinance No. 1557 and 1820 establishing an annual license fee for Sewage Disposal Franchi~ License is hereby repealed. -1 Section 4. This Ordinance shall take effect upon its passage, approval and publication in the form and manner required by law.
