HomeMy WebLinkAbout030117 MinutesARTS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES DATE: March 1, 2017 START TIME: 3:00 p.m. LOCATION: City Hall, Conference Room 1 MEMBERS PRESENT: Dan Groussman, Dominica Lord-Wood, Owen Rowe, Stan Rubin (Chair), Lisa Wentworth MEMBER EXCUSED: Abbie Greene, Kris Morris STAFF PRESENT: City Attorney Steve Gross; Legal Assistant/Deputy Clerk Amber Long Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action Approval of Minutes: February 1 and February 7, 2017 The minutes of February 1, 2017 and February 7, 2017 were approved 4-0, with Dan Groussman abstaining. City Attorney Steve Gross discussed facility rental waivers. City staff will be reviewing the value of waivers granted over the past few years and may request that the average amount be added to the PTAC budget to help track the total value of awards to grant recipients. The Commission discussed the pros and cons of having a seven-member Commission versus a nine-member one. The Commissioners reached general agreement that they would be open to adding up to two additional members to the current seven if Council agrees and there are new applicants. The Commission reviewed the budget. Unanimous vote to set aside $300 in this year’s budget for Angel of the Arts expenses. Funding Application: Amanda Milholland of the Jefferson County Farmers Markets presented two applications: one for music at the weekly farmers markets and one for the Artisan Food Festival. Unanimous votes to fund $1,650 for music at the farmers markets and to fund $200 for music at the Artisan Food Festival. Funding Application: Selena Espinoza presented her application on behalf of Louie’s World to fund art aspects of a Relay for Life kayaking event. Unanimous vote to fund $155 for music and arts supplies and to recommend a fee waiver for rental of the Cotton or Pope Marine Building. Funding Application: The Commission reviewed the application submitted by the Port Townsend Summer Band for its 2017 concert series. Unanimous vote to fund $480 for the 2017 concerts.
