HomeMy WebLinkAbout060717 MinutesARTS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES DATE: June 7, 2017 START TIME: 3:00 p.m. LOCATION: City Hall, Conference Room 1 MEMBERS PRESENT: Abbie Greene, Dan Groussman, Dominica Lord-Wood, Kris Morris, Owen Rowe, Stan Rubin (Chair), and Lisa Wentworth STAFF PRESENT: City Attorney Steve Gross and Legal Assistant/Deputy Clerk Amber Long Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action City Attorney Steve Gross discussed two grants (Ian Coates and VOICE/OCEAN) that the City would not be paying due to lack of follow-through by the applicants. The Commission voted 5 to 1, with Dominica Lord-Wood abstaining, to recommended that the City Manager allow the applicants another chance to submit the required paperwork. Funding Application (continued from prior meeting): Eileen Herrling and Marc Weinblatt from the Mandala Center for Change were present for a discussion of the funding application for a LGBTQ+ youth legislative theater project. Mr. Gross answered clarifying questions from the Commission about funding guidelines in the context of this project or similar projects. The Commission voted 6 to 1 (Dan Groussman opposed) to fund $1,600 for the project. Mr. Gross discussed options that the Commission may have for addressing budget carryover at the end of the year and for tracking facility fee waivers in 2018. The Finance Director and City Manager will be invited to a future meeting to further discuss budget options. Approval of Minutes: May 3, 2017 The minutes of May 3, 2017 were unanimously approved. Owen Rowe reported on recent community arts-related events. Commissioners expressed interest in having the PTAC get more involved in local arts-related meetings or events. It was generally agreed that Mr. Rowe would continue to attend PDA meetings on behalf of the Arts Commission. Next Regular Meeting: July 5, 2017 Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 4:58 p.m.
