AN. ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1852
WHEREAS, the artists and artistic institutions of Port Townsend
contribute to and provide, cultural, educational, entertainment and
recreational benefits available to and used by the citizens of the
City and thereby enhance the public environment and promote the
public welfare, and
WHEREAS, the establishment of a Port Townsend Arts Commission
to promote and encourage public programs to further the development
and public awareness of an interest in the performing, visual,
and literary arts and the preservation of the cultural heritage of
Port Townsend is essential to the public welfare;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
IN REGULAR SESSION ASSEMBLED, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The purpose of the Arts Commission established by
Ordinance No. 1852 is hereby declared to be to promote and encourage
public programs to further the development and public awareness of and
interest in the arts, to have available to the City and its citizens a
degree of expertise with respect to the performing, visual and lterary
arts and to a~ in an advisory capacity to the City government in
connection with the artistic and cultural development of the City.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage,
approval and publication in the manner provided by law.
Read for the first, second and third times, passed and approved
on March 18, 1980.
