RESOLUTION NO. 16-021
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON, ACCEPTING A DONATION FROM THE JEFFERSON COUNTY
COMMUNITY FOUNDATION FOR THE 2016 STEAM GRANT PROGRAM
WHEREAS,the City of Port Townsend Public Library proposed a Girls' STEAM
Makers Camp to increase Jefferson County girls' interest in and motivation to pursue science,
technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) education and careers by combatting
the common social pressures that discourage girls from STEAM fields; and
WHEREAS, the Jefferson County Community Foundation's Better Living Through
Giving Circle "Foundation"has offered to donate $10,000 to the Library to conduct these camps
for 2016; and,
WHEREAS, Section 3.42.050 of the Port Townsend Municipal Code requires donations
in excess of$5,000 to be accepted by the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that it is in the best interests of the City to
accept the donation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend as follows:
Section 1. The City accepts the generous donations from the Foundation as set forth in the
Recitals.
Section 2. The City Manager is authorized to take all administrative actions consistent with
this Resolution.
Section 3. All prior actions of staff consistent with this Resolution are ratified and
confirmed.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a regular meeting
thereof, held this 16th day of May, 2016.
