Once the maps are finaled, insurance rates may be adjusted for affected properties. In addition, new development in areas mapped as high risk, Special Flood Hazard Area, must comply with local floodplain management ordinances. Where do I find more information? FEMA has posted digital copies of the Preliminary Maps on their website:  www.fema.gov/preliminaryfloodhazarddata and invites review comments. Comments are due to FEMA by March 12, 2016.  Please note – any comments need to go directly to FEMA, not to the City. FEMA will coordinate with the City and County to schedule a formal community coordination meeting in the near future. The meeting will offer an opportunity to discuss flood hazard information, ordinance adoption, and other frequently asked questions and concerns. We are bringing this to your attention, should you wish to review and comment to FEMA. Watch for future notice of the public meeting in the local newspaper, and on the City of Port Townsend website http://www.cityofpt.us/
