HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-11-07PEG Access Coordinating Committee Minutes, 12-11-07 3:30 pm at PTTV. Members attending were Mark Welch, Karen Nelson, Tom Opstad, Kitti deLong. Also attending were Dr. Gary Nelson, Carl Nomura, Jonathan Strattman, Steven Emery, Chic Stout. Dr. Nelson presented refined information on the research he has been doing on the equipment upgrade. The technical advantages of Tightrope include balanced audio (Leightronix doesn't publish anything about it's encoder), (highest bit rate is 6 MBs). Tightrope supports up to 50 MBs. We also need fault tolerant storage box, and a vectorscope. If we are doing only analog, then we can purchase a used scope for $2800. Can we add external storage as well? Yes, we can add a RAID system with four drives and should be able to open it. Digital Upgrade Issues: Do we need to hand off a digital signal to Broadstripe? That is not required now or in the foreseeable future. Digital Camera and Production Switchers: Serial digital interface (SDI) is ubiquitous. Cablecast SX2 has SDI interfaces plus L5 TB net RAIS 5 (fault tolerance) storage capacity. Up to 50 MBs MPEG 2 encoding. Streaming connection to internet: Details are not confirmed. Live Streaming Connection: Cablecast servers support only Unicast service. 10 viewers = 10 connections 250 KBs connection x 10 connections = 2.5 MBs. The industry is evolving to multicast. ISP routers: customers modems must support IGMP. Does Qwest support multi -cast? That question will have to be researched. Also add power conditioning that will go inside the panel. Can we support unicast? That depends on what we get from the A -symmetrical subscriber line. We might have to have a dedicated wrack at our server. BIN has static IP on everything. 64 on everything. Discussion re: leasing to purchase. This price includes four terabytes of storage ($2100). There is a donated Patch Panel from Albert Koval that we will check to see if we can make it work. This allows for RSS feeds in either direction in case of an emergency. Dr. Nelson suggested researching one other equipment system, Princeton Server Group (PSG), that he discovered that offers some unique attributes. It was agreed that we would take the time to research this. Dr. Nelson will set up a demonstration of this product. Meeting ended at 5:00 pm.
