Call to Order -The meeting was called to order at 4:30 p.m. Board members present were
Debbie Jahnke, Rosemary Sikes, Brenda McMillan, Ed Robeau, Jim Todd and Jason Cecil.
Deputy City Clerk Joshua Stecker was present from City staff.
Approval of Agenda and Minutes -The present agenda and minutes of the June 24, 2015,
Regular Meeting were approved unanimously.
Public Comment - Debbie Jahnke relayed an email from Bob Gray commenting on Parkside
Park. Margaret Lee commented on the need for reopening the Kah Tai Nature Park restrooms,
better signage for the shoreline access at Thayer and Walker Streets, and not making all
beaches off-leash.
Street Tree List - Debbie Jahnke informed the Board that they have been tasked with revising
the list of acceptable street trees. Board members were asked to review the list and bring their
comments to a future meeting.
Watering Restrictions - Debbie Jahnke noted that the watering of trees at Kah Tai Nature Park
had been cut back by 50%. City staff will be notified if the trees begin responding poorly.
Leash Law Update -The Board discussed the changes to existing leash laws that were
proposed by the Council General Services and Special Projects Committee.
RTP Grant Proposal - Debbie Jahnke reported that City's grant proposal is currently an
alternate and may be funded if money becomes available.
Tree Brochure— Debbie Jahnke updated the Board on a preliminary tree brochure that
features six trees. A professional photographer who volunteered previously has now been
contacted and agreed to provide seasonal pictures of the trees.
Work Parties —The Board discussed projects for the United Good Neighbors Day of Caring
scheduled for September 12th. Debbie Jahnke will consult with Alex Wisniewski about the
potential liability concerns for including school aged children in a work party on that day as has
been done in the past. Rosemary Sikes inquired about the potential for hiring a private
contractor to haul gravel at a future Kah Tai Nature Park work party.
Dog Park Options — Debbie Jahnke updated the Board on the activities of a citizen group
looking for dog park locations. She noted potential for a dog park on Port of Port Townsend land
near the Transit Center outside of town. Under the guidance of Comprehensive Plan Policies
Land Use Element 4.11.1 and 6.4, the Board unanimously voted to allow Debbie Jahnke to
speak on their behalf to the citizen group, the County Parks Board, and individually with County
Commissioner Kathleen Kler.
Next Meeting -The next regularly scheduled meeting will be on August 25, 2015.
Adjourn -The meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
