Meeting Minutes

Commissioners Present:
Stan Rubin (Chair), Kris Morris, Dominica Lord-Wood, Linda Okazaki, Laureen Martin, Lisa Wentworth,
Erin Fristad, Dan Groussman (minutes).
Members Excused: Lisa Wentworth, Kris Morris
Guests: Owen Rowe,Judith-Kate Friedman
Review of minutes from August meeting: MOTION: LO motioned to accept the August minutes with
minor corrections. 2nd by LM, passed unanimously.
Chair Report: PT Summer Band reported success with their summer programs and SR passed around
their promotional literature; our logo was utilized within. IS Magazine conveyed appreciation for the
Commission's support as well.
SR presented and discussed the budget request information that he submitted to The City. The
prospectus contained a summary of programs funded in the past and detailed justification for increased
arts funding in 2015.
Financial Report: LO reported that as of September we have$2,145 on the ledger yet to allocate. LO
suggested we may want to use some small remaining funds to acquire blackout material for the Cotton
Building windows, citing the increased usage that the building would offer as a result of this investment.
3:20- Judith-Kate Friedman entered the meeting.
Judith-Kate began by thanking us for prior support. Songwriting works: The learning abilities of humans
are affected by music. She handed out and explained information on a Ted Ed video related to brain
research and music. Her December proposed programs include a 30-minute documentary about music
and aging, along with another short film. She proposed a free matinee open to all ages and will have
materials for sale and donations will be accepted. She intends to put together a funding support
request for our next meeting.
Seavey Plaque: LO will look into the status of the plaque dedication.
Public Art: City Council passed the Arts Commission-recommended Uptown art proposal unanimously.
Matt Babcock is excited to commence the project; he was sorry he missed the City Council meeting
because of a ferry delay. Matt will work with the city for trenching and electrical necessities prior to
installing Great Blue.
Angel of the Arts: Commissioners discussed what we should do with certain Angel applications that
came in by the deadline but were not submitted to City Hall. One in particular was emailed to LO and
subsequently to SR on the 31St. The majority of the commissioners felt that all received to us by the 31"
would be accepted. LM chaired the discussion. We took our vote and it was 5:1 for Marcia Perlstein,
who will be this year's Angel of the Arts. A vote of 4:2 for Anna Quinn resulted in her being this year's
Patron of the Arts.
Oct 24 and Nov 7 are two dates that SR has reserved for the awards reception.
Meeting ended 5:05pm.
