HomeMy WebLinkAbout050814 NON-MOTORIZED TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY BOARD SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES DATE: May 8, 2014 START TIME: 4:30 p.m. LOCATION: City Hall, Conference Room 1 MEMBERS PRESENT: Scott Walker, Lys Burden, Richard Dandridge, Pat Teal MEMBERS EXCUSED: Jolly Wahlstrom, Tim Eaton STAFF PRESENT: Senior Planner Judy Surber, Project Manager Tyler Johnson, Deputy City Clerk Joshua Stecker OTHERS PRESENT: Deborah Jahnke Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action Follow up Approval of Minutes: Last month's minutes not available Spruce Street Right of Way Acquisition: Scott Walker relayed that City Attorney John Watts reported property owner Norm Odell is willing to sell the easement now. Safe Route to School: Tyler Johnson updated the Board on Safe Route to School grants. San Juan Avenue and Discovery Road were applied for this year. Grant Street and Sheridan Street will be designed this year and constructed next year. Lys Burden asked if the existing trail from Hamilton Heights to Grant Street could be identified as a Safe Route to School trail. The Board felt that if upgraded the trail could be considered in the future. Trail Project List: Judy Surber tasked the Board with preparing two lists of trail The Board will hold a Workshop projects. One list will include trail projects that are good-to-go. The other list will Meeting in the future to create the trail include trails that require staff assistance, permits and grant applications. Ms. Surber projects lists. anticipates City staff being able to support the planning of one project per year. This year's grant application will go to fund new trail equipment for maintenance of existing trails. In two years, grants will be requested for trails prioritized by the Board. Ms. Surber also asked the Board to develop a checklist of protocols for completing trail projects (costs & funding, permits, connectivity issues, public benefit, etc.) 2014 Grant Process: Deborah Jahnke asked the Board to provide information for The Board will finalize the details of the this year's grant application (due on July 1). Ms. Jahnke also requested commitment letters from volunteers. Hastings Street Signage: Mr. Johnson requested signage options to caution The Board will provide Mr. Johnson with vehicles on Hastings. Non-Motorized Transportation Advisory Board Minutes Page 1 of 2 May 8, 2014 Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action Follow up City Manager Tour: Mr. Walker reported on his tour of City trails with City Manager David Timmons. Mr. Walker found Mr. Timmons to be supportive of addressing the needs identified on the tour. New Members: Ideas were discussed for recruiting new members through social media and community involvement. The Board also discussed ideas to entice more trail volunteers. Trail for 30th St. by El Choate's: The trail was identified on the Comp Plan and will be placed on the good-to-go list for future improvement. June 14th Trail Day: Work will be done on Sherman between Hastings and 29th Mr. Johnson needs to send out notices Street. to the adjacent landowners. Map Project: Trail names need to be settled.
