Park, Recreation and Tree Advisory Board

Approval of Minutes September Minutes approved 4-0
Announcements -Attendance has been spotty,
board wanted to make attendance
a priority, especially since
membership is down
- Work parties at Kah Tai
Lagoon (one per month: Jan, Feb,
Mar, April and May), native tree
plantings of Water Hemlock or
Sitka Spruce (trees planted last
year died as it was too wet);
event to be held with Conserv.
District plant sale in February
- Danny reported he and Joss
Whitaker raised funds and
garnered equipment donations for
an Outdoor Collective Gear
Library,possibly to be managed
by The Recyclery. Gear has been
donated by Wildernest and Gray
Wolf. They are looking for life
jackets and hope to debut in
Spring, 2012.
- Public hearing important to the
Parks Plan to be held mid January
(possibly Jan 12); City
Commission will adopt the plan
in Feb or Mar, watch for
announcements on the City's
website
- Park Volunteers, check NRPA
website for an advertising
template

Street Trees on the Taylor Street Rick Sepler described the Taylor Select street tree type from
Project Street Project in detail (need, Taylor Street pallet
funding, timing (begin in Feb and
complete by Memorial Day).
Priorities are: 1. structural, 2.
undergrounding power, sewer
and storm water, 3. new
sidewalks, 4. street trees and
furniture. He would like Board
recommendations on types of
trees in January.
Annual Calendar Feb—Tree Planting at Kah Tai Form subcommittees for specific
held in conjunction with activities
Conservation Districy Plant Sale
April—Arbor Day & April Pools
Day(first weekend), plant tree
and rhododendron for Rhody Fest
May—Volunteer work days at
parks, possible progressive picnic
July—National Parks &
Recreation Month, Pedalpalooza
Oct or Nov—Autumn Arbor
Day, plant tree and sponsor bulb
fest at McGarraugh Park(involve
children in early Nov)
Dec—possible holiday tree walk
along streets (subcommittee
needed)
All activities should be sent well
in advance to Joanna for the City
Calendar
Manager's Report - Budget process strange this year
in response to uncertain funding
levels; pool may be closed for 6
months for repairs.
- Reorganization/consolidation of
city departments is taking place.
-YMCA still seeking funds, and
library to move temporarily to
Mountain View downstairs while
main building is renovated.
- Staff reductions are taking
place, and Jeremy's position
(which has only been in place for
two years) is being changed.
Jeremy announced his resignation
starting in February or March in
order to preserve other jobs in the
Park& Rec Dept.
Visitor Comment Debbie Jahnke to provide more
information on Heritage Tree
Program in the future.
Margaret Lee commended
Jeremy for his superlative service
to the City and residents of Port
Townsend.
Next Meeting January 24, 2012, at 5 pm.
