RESOLUTION OF THE C TY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF
PORT TOWNSEND ENDORSI G THE 2005 PORT TOWNSEND FILM
FESTIVAL, AND W AlVIN RENTAL FEE FOR USE OF THE
POPE M E PARK BUILDING

The City Council ofthe City of~ort Townsend, Washington, does resolve as
follows: I
WHEREAS, the Port TownsendlFilm Festival is moving forward with its sixth
armual celebration of film, which is enjo ed by mostly local residents, (75% of attendees
reside on the Quimper, Kitsap and Olym ic Peninsulas); and
WHEREAS, the festival is sche uled in late September at a time when city
residents feel as though they are getting he town back after a summer of tourist
occupation; and
WHEREAS, the festival attracts attendance of filmmakers and sponsors who
interact with the community; and I

WHEREAS, although attendan~e is heavily local, the festival elicits a great deal
of publicity, particularly from Seattle, aqd adds appreciably to the city's continuing
reputation as an arts colony; and I

WHEREAS, the festival is helplng to inspire a developing group ofloeal video
filmmakers;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT IU:SOL YED, that the City Council for the City of
Port Townsend hereby endorses the 200~ Port Townsend Film Festival and waives the
rental fee of the Pope Marine Park buildIng (September 17-18 and 22-26), in exchange
for the substantial public benefit derive~ by the City of Port Townsend.
ADOPTED by the City councillof the City of Port Townsend at a regular
business meeting thereof, held this ninefenth day of September, 2005.
