RESOLUTION #05-027
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SIGN CHANGE ORDERS TO THE CITY
HALL IMPROVEMENTS AND ANNEX ADDITION CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT
FOR THE SUPPLEMENTAL BUDGET TO PROVIDE A FIRE SUPPRESSION
SPRINKLER SYSTEM TO THE SECOND FLOOR OF HISTORIC CITY HALL
WHEREAS, the City Council appropriated funds in the 2005 Capital Improvement
Program for City Hall Improvements and Annex Addition Project; and
WHEREAS, the city staff in identifying priority issues that were not funded under the
initial contract did not anticipate the extra costs associated with a fire suppression system on the
second floor of Historic City Hall; and
WHEREAS, the city staff has determined that the addition of a fire suppression
sprinkler system to the current construction contract of the City Hall Project is a priority project
to provide protection of the Historic City Hall; and
WHEREAS, it is advantageous to install the fire suppression system at this time while
construction on the roof is underway in order to avoid costly demolition and rehabilitation to the
second floor ceilings at a later date; and
WHEREAS, delegation of supplemental budget to fund this addition to the scope of the
original contract is appropriate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend that the City Manager is hereby authorized to sign all appropriate change orders to the
construction contract for the City Hall Improvements and Annex Addition Project for the
addition of a fire suppression system to the second floor of Historic City Hall, within the amount
authorized by Council in this supplementary budget.
