MINUTES
Historic Preservation Commission
September 24, 1991
All proceedings taped.
The regular meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission was
called to order by Teresa Goldsmith, chairman, at 7:05 p.m.
Roll call was taken. Present: Christopher Carson, Teresa Goldsmith,
Tom Johnson, Pete Raab, Mike Yawman. Absent: Ann Landis, Liz Smith. Guests:
Sheri Robison, Patricia Warren, John Tudan, Phil Johnson, Marietta Wilhelm.
Minutes were read. Yawman moved and Johnson seconded that they be approved.
Vote was unanimous with two absent.
Communications
Commissioners read and discussed letters penned by Katherine Johnson
and Steve Corra concerning tree trimming in front of the Water Street Hotel.
The agenda listed the color palette for the downtown District under
"New Business". So that Tudán and Johnson would not have to wait until
that subject was discussed, Raab moved and Yawman seconded to d1an~the agenda,
putting "Old Business" first so that the Nordland Construction, Bay Vista II
preapplication conference could be taken care of first. Vote was unanimous
in favor with two absent.
Old Business
Nordland Construction,cBay Vista II Condominium Project
Drawings in perspective showing the front and back of the proposed
building including adjacent structures were submitted. The project was
examined in the light of the guidelines. When time (45 minutes) was up,.
Raab moved and Carson seconded to extend the time period by 30 minutes. Vote
was unanimous with two absent.
Concern centered around the wall dormers, which were designed to be
12" higher than the roof and also the strong horizontal quality of the rail-
ings. Tudan and Johnson were requested to furnish a design detail of a
window and also corner trim, a section through a window wall and an elev-
ation of a typical window for the next session.

Color palette for the Downtown Historic District
Carson and Yawman presented some new sheets they had prepared as an
assist in developing guideliBB8~.
Public Testimony: Marietta Wilhelm voiced her concern about color
becoming too sedate on the Victorian homes in town.
Carson explained the options available for guidelinBs concerning side
and back walls; also the need for guidelines for mural review. Sepler will
develop a set of guidelines for commissioners to examine.
Raab moved and Yawman seconded that the meeting be adjourned. Vote
was uRanimous with two absent. Adjourned at 10:10 p.m.
