RESOLUTION NO. 04-036
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO THE
APPROPRIATE AGREEMENTS AND SIGN DOCUMENTS FOR THE REMOVAL OF
THE SUNKEN BARGE "RELIEF" UNDER THE STATE'S DERELICT VESSEL
REMOVAL PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the wooden barge "Relief' sank next to the City's railroad transfer
span and has apparently been abandoned by its owner; and
WHEREAS, the barge rests on DNR aquatic lands and DNR has requested that
the barge be removed citing environmental concerns for migrating fish; and
WHEREAS, the recently enacted Derelict Vessel Act provides a mechanism for
removal ofthe barge with the state reimbursing 75% ofthe cost of removal; and
WHEREAS, the City, Port of Port Townsend, and the Port Townsend Paper
Company have expressed an interest in working together to remove the barge.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Port Townsend that the City Manager is hereby authorized to enter into the appropriate
agreements and sign the appropriate documents to complete the removal of the barge
"Relief' under the State Derelict Vesse! Removal Program.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a regular
meeting thereof, held this sixth day of July 2004.
