Collectively they provided us with hours of information gathering, brainstorming and guidance that are essential to Council’s decision- making. To each and every one of you listed below who have served on an advisory board, committee, commission or task force this past year, thank you. In addition we also want to thank the many people who have donated time to work in our parks, on our trails, and as police and fire volunteers. Your commitment to the welfare of our community is greatly appreciated. This trunk sewer is the main artery of the city’s sewer collection system and runs through the golf course to the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) on Kuhn Street. The segment constructed this year extends from Blue Heron School to the WWTP. As part of this project, Kuhn Street was re- paved and a new pedestrian- and bicycle- friendly path was constructed along the route. •The new Island Vista Pump Station replaces an aging sewer pump station that services the bluff area south of Sims Way. •The new Morgan Hill Booster Station, located at F and Chestnut Streets, increased water pressure and fire flow for residents on Morgan Hill. The project also improved fire flow service to the high school. The City appreci- ates the cooperation of the School District in providing the site for this facility. •The 12” Ivy Street Water Main constructed in steep forested terrain provides increased water pressure in the City’s water service area on North Jacob Miller Road. •Recently completed is a new Water Main on Upper Sims Way that significantly boosts fire flow for the commercial area south of Sims Way and west of Logan Street. This project was led by the city’s civil engineering intern, Mary Heather Ames, who stayed on with the City through the fall to gain valuable ‘real world’ construction experi- ence before finishing her CE degree. The City appreciates the patience and cooperation of the residents and businesses that were temporarily impacted by the 2004 con- struction work. In addition during 2004 •New Digital Aerial Photographs that are used for utility mapping, planning, and devel- opment review were taken. •A new Trails Map was produced in coopera- tion with the Non-Motorized Transportation Advisory Board and the Port Townsend Bicy- cle Association. (Look for improved trail sign- age in 2005.) •A new Advisory Board was also established to oversee the preparation and implementation of the Downtown Parking Study. •A citizen task force prepared a Golf Course Study. Their recommendations will be pre- sented to the City Council in January. •New Playground Equipment was purchased and an additional playground was built at Chetzemoka Park. •Railroad Trestle Demolition involved emer- gency cleanup and recovery of debris from damage to the trestle during the Nov. 2003 windstorm. And the Work Goes On… 2005 After completing the design and initial construc- tion in 2004, the work on the new Fire Hall con- tinues through this spring. The fire and EMS crews and their vehicles will be settling into their new quarters in May. The project is funded in large part through a $1.8 million FEMA grant. There will be much activity downtown as the City begins construction of the City Hall Renovation and New Annex Building in January. This full- year project incorporates an innovative solution to reinforce the Historic City Hall against earth- quakes: The seismic bracing that supports the historic building is located in the Annex and is incorporated into the entrance, eliminating the need for intrusive bracing in City Hall. Nearby, the new Skateboard Park will be a great place for Port Townsend’s youth to fine-tune their boarding skills. Funded in part by the Inter- agency Committee for Outdoor Recreation Con- struction, construction is scheduled to begin in February. Expect to see Boarders trying out the new bowls in the summer of 2005!
