HomeMy WebLinkAbout04 From City Manager David Timmons Handling New Proposals: Many ideas are presented to the City by elected officials, citizens or staff which are worthy, but not anticipated within the current year’s budget or work plan. The City Council has adopted a procedure to deal with these new ideas. A new Council rule establishes a process that allows the Council to consider proposals at a quarterly work session. At the meeting, the Presiding Officer and City Manager will present a list of new proposals that have come up or been suggested for Council action since the Council last considered its legislative priorities. The City Manager will provide a recommenda- tion and summary information to the Council in- cluding an estimate of time, staff resources and cost to implement the proposal; an estimate of the impact of the new proposal on existing pro- jects; and a review for consistency with adopted plans and policies. Public comment will be taken at the meeting and the Council may place items for possible action on a future business meeting agenda. New proposals may be phoned in to 379-5045; emailed to citycouncil@ci.port-townsend.wa.us, or directed by mail or in person to the City at 181 Quincy Street, Suite 201. Handling Immediate Concerns: A concern which is immediate and can be dealt with by staff (such as a downed tree, pot hole, street light malfunction, sewer backup, etc.) should be submitted as a Citizen Concern to 379-5047, 344-3058 or after hours, 385-2626. Kay Harper of the DASH Board says, “it’s all possible.” Kay is a member of the DASH Board and is helping to plan an experi- ence that will increase awareness about disability accessibility in Jefferson County. On April 21, a dozen community leaders will learn why disability accessibility matters, when they par- ticipate in DASH’s 2nd Annual Disability Accessi- bility Event. Among other activities, participants will be conducting accessibility surveys of local businesses, galleries and offices, and evaluating the accessibility – and inaccessibility -- of the city’s streets and sidewalks. “The point of the Event is clear and simple,” said Lesa Barnes, DASH Project Coordinator. “We want to increase the community’s support for an acces- sible Jefferson County.” DASH (Disability, Awareness, Surveillance and Health) is a community advocacy project of the Olympic Area Agency on Aging in partnership with the Washington State Dept. of Health, with funding from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. Participants in this year's Disability Event will in- clude City Manager Dave Timmons; Mayor Catharine Robinson; Superintendent of Port Town- send Schools Carol Andreason; Jefferson Transit’s Operations Manager Curt Stacey; Director of the Olympic Area Agency on Aging Roy Walker; Hos- pital Commissioner Tony DeLeo; City Plans Exam- iner Jan Zimmer; City Council members Michelle Sandoval, Frank Benskin and Laurie Medlicott; and County Administrator David Goldsmith.
