A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PORT TOWNSEND AFFIRMING ITS INTENT TO BE AN
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
Whereas, local governments are required to have personnel systems
which do not discriminate, and
Whereas, the city council deems it necessary and appropriate to
affirm its policy as an equal opportunity employer, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PORT TOWNSEND:
Section 1.) The city council does hereby affirm its policy to un-
equivocally commit to recruit, hire, train, and promote persons to all
job classifications without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age,
national origin, marital status, or because of a sensory, physical or
mental handicap, except where a bona fide occupational qualification
applies.
Section 2.) The City officials are hereby authorized to implement
an affirmative action program if it is found necessary to promote equal
employment opportunities for minorities, women, and the handicapped.
Section 3.) It is the councils intent to encourage employees at all
times to be aware of the spirit and principle of equal employment oppor-
tunity, and cooperate fully to assure that it remains a reality.
Passed and approved at a regular meeting of the Port Townsend City
Council this 21st day of February, 1978.
