A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE SITING OF A COUNTY
JAIL FACILITY OUTSIDE THE CITY AND ENCOURAGING
A FACILITY DESIGNED TO SERVE BOTH COUNTY AND
CITY NEEDS
WHEREAS, the site selection sub-committee for the Jefferson
County Jail has recommended three possible locations to the County
Commissioners, and
WHEREAS, one of the three sites is the County Shop at Hadlock,
and,
WHEREAS, the selection of this site or any other site outside
the city limits would create many unnecessary expenses and inconveniences,
and,
WHEREAS, the security of prisoners during transport from a jail
facility outside of town to the Courthouse will be precarious, and,
WHEREAS, other suitable sites are available within the city,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF PORT TOWNSEND:
Section 1. That the City Council go on record as being in
opposition to the siting of a county jail facility outside the city
limits.
Section 2. That a jail facility be designed to serve both county
and city needs.
