The following is a report of this department's findings from its follow-up inspection of the noted facility.
1. The automatic fire extinguishing system is to be replaced with awet-chemical system meeting the
standazds of UL 300, and;
2. All appliances shall be properly protected with the correct nozzle types, in the proper position, and;
3. The hood duct penetration through the ceiling is protected by an approved cover and sealed; and,
4. The hood duct shaft is finished gypsum wall board, and meets the current Code for two-layers of 518-
inch Type-X gypsum wall boazd minimum; and,
5. The current protection of the combustible wall assembly behind the cooking assembly meets current
~ Code, and;
6. The existing hood/canopy meets Code for proper size in relation to appliances; and,
----~`} 7. The hood exhaust system make-up air shall be re-calculated for proper volume in order to provide a
`.._ formal gravity-type air inlet/damper [International Mechanical Code Section 508 "Commercial
Kitchen Make-up Air"], and;
8. The kitchen shall be provided with aClass-K fu•e extinguisher in addition to the standard 40-B:C dry
chemical extinguisher; and,
9. The exhaust duct termination on the roof meets height, termination and setback requirements of code.

T'he kitchen proposal contains a provision for commercial kitchen appliance. I.F.C. Section 904.2.1
requires that a fire department approved fue suppression system (i.e. sprinklers) shall be provided for the
protection ofcommercial-type Food heat-processing equipment
I. The proposed system is found to be designed to Underwriter's Lab Specification 300 including NFPA
96 and related specifications for wail, ceiling and duct protection; and,
2. Sprinkler protection is found to be provided for the enclosed plenum space within Lire hood above the
filters and exhaust ducts serving Type I hoods; and,
3. The proposed system is found to be fttted with manual activation capability consistent with I.F.C
Section 904,3.2 requirements; and,
4. Where applicable, automatic equipment interlocks with the cooking appliance fuel shutoff shall be
provided, however, hood exhaust fan(s) shall continue to operate after the extinguishing system has been
activated unless fan shutdown is required by a listed component of the ventilation system or by the design
of the extinguishing system, per NFPA 46, Section 8.2.3.1; and,
5. The hood exhaust fan shall not be required to start upon activation of the extinguishing system if the
exhaust fan and all cooking equipment served by the fan have previously been shut down, per NFPA 96,
Section 8,2.3.2; and,
6. When applicable, the activation of the extinguishing system shall automatically signal the fire alarm
signaling system serving the occupancy. Where electrical power is required to operate the extinguishing
system, it shall be monitored by a supervisory alarm; and,
7. This department shall inspect the installation £or code compliance, including witnessing of the
installer's testing of the protection System.
It is the administrative determination of this office to recommend approval of the proposal, subject to the
terms outlined herein.
1.0 hour of time shall be logged for this review.
Two [2] sets of approved plans and specifications are submitted herewith for return to the contractor.
