HomeMy WebLinkAbout90-029RESOLUTION A RESOLUTION DECLARING THE INTENT OF THE PORT TOWNSEND CITY COUNCIL TO JOIN JEFFERSON COUNTY AND ~ POR~ OF PORT TOWNS~ TO PREPARE A JOINT PARKS COHPREHENSIVE PLAN. WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend (City) shares with Jefferson County (County) and the Port of Port Townsend (Port) the responsibility to provide various park and recreation services; and WHEREAS, WHEREAS, the City provides annual funding to the County in support of recreation activities within the City; and both the County and the Port own park and recreational lands within the City; and WHEREAS, future changes in policy or level of funding for parks and recreational services made by the County or the Port would effect the quality of life of Port Townsend citizens; and WHEREAS, coordination of parks planning provides mutual opportunities to control costs and reduce duplication of effort; and WHEREAS, the City desires to update its Parks Comprehensive Plan; and WHEREAS, the County and Port, with the participation of the City, have been working together and with the public to prepare an updated Parks Comprehensive Plan for the County and the Port; and WHEREAS, the City has previously agreed to share in the costs of the recently concluded survey of recreational opportunities in Jefferson County and Port Townsend; and WHEREAS, it has been suggested by the County and the Port that the process be broadened to develop a joint Parks Comprehensive Plan which would serve all three jurisdictions; Now, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend that the City desires to join with the County and Port to prepare a joint Park Comprehensive plan; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that citizens and public employees are urged to work together toward a joint Parks comprehensive Plan in a single document for all of the people of jefferson County; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in the event that there remain differences between the text of the draft plan prepared jointly, and alternative text subsequently found by the' City Council to be in the best interests of the City of Port Townsend, the City Council reserves the right to reflect such differences in its adopting resolution.
