' A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND PETITIONING THE PUBLIC DISCLOSURE COMMISSION TO MAKE THE PROVISIONS OF RCW 42.17 REQUIRING CANDIDATES FOR ELECTIVE OFFICE TO DISCLOSE CAMPAIGN FINANCING TO THE PUBLIC DISCLOSURE COMMISSION AND THE JEFFERSON COUNTY AUDITOR APPLICABLE TO THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND WHEREAS, RCW Chapter 42.17 provides for the disclosure of election campaign financing information for any individual for an office where the constituency for the office encompasses a whole county and contains more than five thousand registered voters as of the date of the most recent general election in the district, and WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend, Washington does not qualify as a district containing more than five thousand registered voters under RCW 42.17 and is therefore an exempt political subdivision under the provisions of RCW 42.17.030 and WHEREAS, the provisions of RCW 42.17.405(3) allow any exempt political subdivision to petition the Public Disclosure Commission to make the repOrting provisions of RCW 42.17 applicable to the political subdivision, and WHEREAS, the City'Council of the City of Port Townsend desires the Public Disclosure Commission to review the campaign financing of the candidates for elective office in the City of Port Townsend and to have such reports available locally at the office of the Jefferson County Auditor, Now Therefore, Be it resolved that the City Council for the city of Port Townsend does hereby petition the Public Disclosure Commission to make the provisions of RCW 42.17 applicable to elected officials and candidates for elective offices of the City of Port Townsend and political committees formed to support or oppose candidates and/or ballot propositions in the City of Port Townsend and submits this petition as a request to the Public Disclosure Commission for validation and an order to every known affected person in the City to file the initially required -statement and reports within fourteen days of the date of the order. Said order shall apply to all candidates and potential committees and elections in the City of Port Townsend and shall be revoked only if after four years after the issuance of the order the Public Disclosure Commission is presented a petition or other official action from the City Council of the City of Port Townsend requesting such a revocation.
